Limited Edition MNDF Tartan Bear - Number 8

We are incredibly excited to be able to offer you the chance to win one of the limited edtion MNDF Tartan Bears, donated by Alan Miller from Yarns to Yearn For. These amazing bears, made out of offical My Name'5 Doddie Foundaiton tartan, have been big hits in auctions previously. Alan hopes that number 8 can also make a big impact and help towards our aim of a world free of MND.

The Bear's History

Yarns to Yearn For is into its 10th Year as a full time business. The textile mills Alan worked in always had surplus stock including Lambswool, Silk, Cashmere which we started to experiment selling on eBay. There certainly was a market for various yarns.

They started to sell lengths of fabric and met a lady called Jill who made small collectible bears. She agreed to make a few from some old tweed pieces which then got us thinking about tartan, if we could get hold of some we could get some tartan bears made. So began the Tartan Army up to now there’s been over 120 different tartan bears made. Only a small stock is held and a lot are made to order.

After 4 of the team cycled Lands End to John O’Groats in 2018 and raised money for 4 different charities including the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation we thought it would be great to get some of the Doddie Tartan. Initially 5 larger bears were made each individually numbered on the back of the ear. Then that grew to 8 (thinking of the forward pack in Rugby) Doddie was given number 1 in February 2020 and then number 5 early 2022 of which one was auctioned at the dinner in November. 2 and 3 are in the homes of the cyclists. 4 was raffled in Langholm. 6 was Auctioned and 7 was given to Brian at the Cycle Jersey.

The plan is now to hopefully get another 7 made to make up a full squad of 15. These will be raffled auctioned etc through time.
