Case Study : Cure Leukaemia

How the official Tour de France charity used our online auctions to help raise £1million

07 February 2022

An internationally renowned charity enlisted us to deliver online auctions to help them fundraise online.

Cure Leukaemia – the official Tour de France charity in the UK

Cure Leukaemia – the first official charity partner of the Tour de France in the UK - asked us to help them raise £1million.

The charity funds a network of research nurses across the UK that connect patients with pioneering blood cancer clinical trials. They were announced as the first-ever official charity partner in the UK for the Tour de France ahead of World Blood Cancer Day in May.

The challenge

As part of their fundraising strategy, Cure Leukaemia runs an annual cycling event, The Tour 21, which sees 25 amateur cyclists take on all 21 stages of the world-renowned race the week before the Tour de France in June.
They asked for our support to run ‘The Ultimate Cycling Prize Draw’, as part of this major cycling event.
As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, the 2020 event was cancelled leaving Cure Leukaemia with a significant fundraising shortfall.
In-person events were curbed and therefore fundraising restricted so they needed to find an alternative.

The solution – SliderStock

SliderStock’s online auction service – different from all other products on the market.

What they said

Cure Leukaemia CEO, James McLaughlin

Cure Leukaemia suffered a £1,700,000 fundraising shortfall in 2020 due to COVID-19 so the £1m target Geoff Thomas and his Tour 21 team had this summer was of vital importance for blood cancer patients across the UK.

We are very grateful to SliderStock for providing a brilliant platform for our cycling prize draw as the funds raised from these opportunities will all contribute to that £1million target.

I am sure there will be many future opportunities for fundraising through SliderStock and we look forward to working with James and the team.
